Well, this doesn't sound good at all:

PostNL has unveiled further details regarding its plans in response to potential changes in postal regulations. The company aims to transition to delivering letters every other day, with potential additional charges for specific delivery dates. Furthermore, PostNL is considering a future model where mail may need to be collected in certain areas, a strategy similar to current parcel practices. These initiatives necessitate amendments to postal laws, which PostNL anticipates the Dutch Parliament will consider favorably.

It's essentially how things work already, if not with even greater delays. The latest news:

PostNL will be allowed to take up to three days to deliver letters sent by private individuals starting from mid-2027. The caretaker cabinet is accommodating PostNL by introducing this relaxation sooner. Previously, the measure would only have taken effect in 2028 or 2029.
